Blog Work For my Internet Class

It time to up the level on the Internet Classes at Mogadore High School to include things like Blog's, RSS, Wiki's and Web 2.0 technology. I really didn't want to share my blog with my classes after I left it sit idle for 9 monthes. It's not that I don't get involved in modern technology, but rather who has time to sit and write mindless thoughts on the web? Anyway, what do I really have to say that would be so interesting. From what I've read on a lot of blogs, few other people have that much interesting to talk about.

A year gone by

Time to review a school year gone by

Lots of improvements in both Cross Country and Track

A shot putter to the State Track Meet

A 7th place finish in the league meet for my lead junior high school XC runner

Regional qualifiers in the Boy's 100 meters and 4x200 relay

A shot putter on second team All-PTC league

Implemented new curriculum in three courses

Figured out how best to make an illogically designed classroom work

Fought through a month with little or no voice

Survived three days in the heart unit and returned to teaching the next day

Became a better coach and a decent teacher

Four weeks into a new year

It's interesting to reflect back on these first few weeks as the new technology teacher in an all new Junior and Senior High School and how much we have all learned from each other. I have been rudely reminded that 7Th graders still have a great deal to learn and despite the commonly held idea that they all know more than the average adult about computers and technology, it simply isn't so. While one student out of every twenty five may display some level of comfort with technology, most are self taught and clumsy with the limited areas of internet use and computer software they know how to use.

I have been forced to learn the limited vocabulary today's early teens suffer with as a result of less actual reading in their daily lives. I have also learned that though they may be a year or so more phyiscally mature than my generation might have been at the same age, they are no more emotionally mature. I am daily reminded how much I enjoy working with these students and how lucky I feel to have been allowed to take this position. Hopefully the research skills and software usage knowledge they will aquire this year will be a base for a lifetime of learning.

The New Mogadore High School

I am please to report that as of today, we have 24 computers in the business room and 48 chairs so no one has to drag a chair from the work tables to a computerI wouldn't trade my best day in the old school for my worst day on the new school, except that I really miss the old gym.

First Week of School at New Mogadore High School

We have completed our first week in the new Mogadore Jr/Sr High and we are shaking out the bugs. Everyday the air conditioning works a little better. Everyday we are closer to having a cafeteria. Everyday we have more books showing up and more computers setup. and everyday the students are finding their way more quickly around the building. Here's hoping that next week I will be able to start classes on time, have a working computer for everyone and have an operating projector to use in instruction. From someone who working in every room of both of the old school buildings, this new school is a joy. Thanks to the good people of Mogadore for your faith and your support.
